FAQ

Questions regarding the application process

Application

Is there a submission deadline?

+

The deadline for downloading the application documents and trial assaignment file is within one week of submitting your application. As a general rule, the submission deadline is within 1 week of the date and time you download the trial file (this may vary by subject, e.g., within 24 hours). Please note that submission deadlines are strictly and automatically managed down to the exact date and time by the system, so be sure to submit well in advance. For details, please refer to the application guidelines.

Does it cost anything to apply and take the trial?

+

No, applying and taking the trial are completely free of charge.

What should I do if I miss the submission deadline?

+

As the entire application process is managed automatically, deadlines cannot be extended. Please ensure your schedule allows sufficient time before applying. If you miss the deadline, please cancel your application via the [Applicant Portal] and submit a new application. For instructions on how to cancel, please refer to the FAQ “Is it possible to cancel my application?”

Is it possible to cancel my application?

+

Log in to the [Applicant Portal], go to [My Applications], select the relevant job posting, and click [Cancel Application] at the bottom of the screen.

Is it possible to take a trial for more than one field?

+

You may take the trial for multiple fields, provided that you submit each subject by its respective deadline. However, we recommend that you first take the trial in your strongest field and language direction.

Can you explain the application process?

+

Please refer to the application process for details.

Compensation

What is the compensation for applicants who pass the trial?

+

Translation rates are generally calculated on a source‑text word/character basis (note that different pricing models, such as target‑text–based rates, may apply in certain fields). While we have standard base rates, the final rate will be determined based on your trial results and professional experience.
The rate will be presented at the time of acceptance, and you will be registered once we reach an agreement.

Eligibility Requirements

Is it possible to apply from outside Japan?

+

Yes, applicants living outside Japan are also eligible to apply.

Is it possible to retake the trial?

+

If you do not pass the trial, you may retake it after a one-year waiting period. We believe that this amount of time is necessary for skill development. Please note that the conditions for retaking the trial may vary for certain job opportunities. For details, please refer to the application guidelines.

Is it possible to apply without using a PC?

+

You can apply using a smartphone or tablet, but a PC is required to submit the trial.

Is Microsoft Office required?

+

If you register with SunFlare after passing the trial, you are required to have a licensed version of Microsoft Office that is within the support period.
At the trial stage, we do accept submissions created using non‑licensed or compatible software. However, please note that issues such as formatting inconsistencies or missing revision histories may occur. In such cases, the submission will not be graded and you will not pass the trial.

Is there an age limit?

+

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
